So, what´s Purim about?

Wikipedia lo explica por mí:
Wikipedia explains it for me:

Purim is a jewish festivity celebrated every year on jewish month Adar 14 in memory of the miracle written in the Book of Esther in which the jews were saved from the annihilation, under the command of the persian king  Ahasuerus, identified by some historians as Xerxes I, around 450 BC C.

Although Purim is considered one of the happiest days of the Hebrew calendar, Jews are obliged to fast and pray on the eve, in memory of the Persian Jews who fasted and prayed to God to save them from imminent conflict would lead to their annihilation and extermination by Haman and his followers in the army of the Persian Empire. On Purim we read the Megillah (Hebrew מְגִילַת אֶסְתֵּר,Megillat Esther, "Roll-Book-of Ester"). This reading is performed at high speed, and the listener must make a noise with rattles or other act upon the name of Haman, so that the name be erased.This does involve children.
After fasting, it is a feast in which it is customary to drink wine and recite songs, including the prayer is usually said Shoshanat known as Jacob, who has been recorded by many singers Jews of Israeland the Diaspora. It is also obliged to send gifts to friends (in Hebrew: מנות משלוח, mishloach Manot) and giving charity to the poor (in Hebrew: לאביונים מתנות, Matanot La'evionîm) and is also used to disguise the children.
For Purim special treats are made, called "Haman's ears " Males are allowed to take wine to the level of "confusing the names of Haman and Mordechai. "

I invite you to read Esthers Book, it's on the Bible and it will take just a few minutes.
The custom of the disguises is because by then (as you may read on the book) the non jews would dress up as jews when the roles got reversed.

                              Shalom!

Purim Purim Purim

This is probably the most fun celebration because of the costumes, this year I wanted to make the costumes myself, so we had to pick something easy and cheao to make, but it also had to be modest, dance and heat-friendly.
